About the Author :ELLEN DOWD purchased her first Keeshond puppy in 1966 from the highly regarded Ruttkay Kennels of Virginia Ruttkay. It did not take Ellen long before she became totally absorbed in the dog show scene and was soon working for professional handlers while simultaneously showing her own dogs. By 1969, she had handled Ch. Dole-Shar Quito to a position among the top-winning dogs
of the breed. In 1980, Ellen and her husband Peter founded the O'Delyn Kennels. Together, the dedicated pair have bred numerous champions and campaigned several dogs to top national rankings. Three of their homebred champions, Ch. O'Delyn Dauntless Debbie, Ch.
O'Delyn Bet Your Boots, and Ch. O'Delyn Lonestar, were breeder-owned and handled to qualify for the Keeshond Hall of Fame. The Dowd's Keeshonden have won at many regional and national specialties and have also won multiple all-breed Bests In Show.
Peter and Ellen are currently members of the Keeshond Club of Delaware Valley, the Empire Keeshond Club, and the Keeshond Club of America. Peter serves on the Board of the Empire Keeshond Club and is an active member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Steward's Association. He has judged numerous specialty sweepstakes and all-breed matches in preparation for a judging career in the future.
